User Profile Service Failed the Logon

Symptoms

  • Cannot login
  • Get “User Profile service failed the logon” message
  • Get “Could not load profile” message

Solution #1

  • Navigate to C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Microsoft
  • Search for files with extension “.sqm”
  • Delete all search results
  • Try logging in again

Solution #2

  • Navigate to C:\Users
  • Right-click the Default folder and go to Properties
  • Switch to the Security tab and click on Advanced
  • Click Change Permissions
  • Check the box “Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object” and click Apply
  • Click OK and try logging in again.
