Can’t open PDF files

Symptoms

  • Can’t open PDF files
  • Adobe Reader says Access denied.
  • Error opening PDF document

Solution

  1. Open Adobe Reader
  2. Go to Edit -> Preferences
  3. On the left-hand side, choose Security (Enhanced)
  4. On the right at the top, uncheck the box that says “Enable Protected Mode at startup”
  5. That’s it.  You should now be able to open your PDFs
